Martin’s journey to Aspen has been circuitous. While studying architecture in his native Slovakia, which was then under a communist rule, an opportunity to ‘escape’ to the West presented itself and Martin took it, ultimately arriving in San Francisco Bay Area after a two year’s journey.
His desire to ultimately continue his architectural studies led him first to work for a high-end construction firm, apprenticeship in an architectural firm in Marin County and pursuit of architectural studies at a private school in San Francisco.
After several years of hands on construction experience and upon graduating for Cogswell College with BA Arch Martin began his apprenticeship with large architectural firms in San Francisco, gradually working on more complex projects in progressively more senior positions.
Upon completing his apprenticeship and becoming CA licensed architect Martin refocused his attention and practice to strictly residential and winery practice in Marin/Sonoma/Napa resort areas, practice that offered possibilities of further and deeper exploration of modernist design idiom.
All along he pursued additional studies to further his skill set, earning LEED certification and Project Management Certification from UC Berkeley Extension.
Following the move to Aspen with his artist wife Cindi several years ago Martin practiced and worked for local architectural firms prior to rejoining Studio B this fall.
Martin still misses Bay Area’s balmy weather and watersports, but is slowly adapting by pursuit of skiing Ajax, biking Gov’t Trail and a daily yoga practice.
