This 8-acre site is on the fringe of a vast cattle ranch and lies under the gaze of the Elk Mountain Range near Old Snowmass, Colorado. The plan is reduced into 3 volumes with each realizing a private and public side while having views and landscape elements that are directly accessible. An encompassing sage and wildflower field dominates the immediate site with a water feature, bbq, and meandering pathway to a viewing platform occupy the owner’s private side of the house. A sunset terrace and spa are on the public side of the project overlooking the common pastures and mountain views. The massing, roof forms and exterior materials were selected based upon regional agricultural structures and were governed by specific design guidelines.
