House of Dualities
Reading as two separate structures in time and architecture, the house of dualities looks carefully into contrast and polemics. The client requested an interpretive solution that not only embraced the turn-of-the-century cottage, but also reflected a contemporary attitude and aesthetic. Situated in a historic neighborhood, all changes to the existing cottage were limited to the interior spaces. The solution references the familiar vernacular forms and components of the area while also addressing the issues of scale, proportion, and massing of the surrounding contextual environment.
