Del Balso Residence
The Del Balso Residence lies within a ten-acre sloping site that is heavily populated by a dense aspen forest. The property is located in Aspen's Castle Creek Valley, an area prone to avalanche slides during the winter months. A thick sandblasted concrete wall serves as a datum generating plan and volumetric relationships in the elevations, while reflecting the solidity of the structure. The detailing and material palette is sober architecture, acting as a quiet backdrop for the spectacular natural beauty of the site and the client's extensive art collection.
