Bergen Czech Residence
The Bergen + Czech Residence responds to a long narrow site that is bounded by Castle Creek, a rocky embankment, significant trees, and a confined building envelope. Because of the building’s proximity to the stream, the house is perched on structural piloti for flooring concerns.
Budgetary constraints play a significant role in the design solution. The program is bisected by a sloping entry ramp where service is separated from living. The ramp continues through the building and transforms to a spacious private cantilevered deck overlooking the down-river views. A double-height living/dining area allows the upper level to enjoy wonderful views of the river while the main level is on the river. A pilates studio/guest room exists above the garage and is connected by a bridge to the main living quarters. Numerous balconies, decks, and a roof garden can be accessed from the upper level office area.
