Gilbert Sanchez, AIA
Principal

Gilbert directs the Studio's emerging civic and institutional work. It's a familiar role in a 27 year professional career that includes design for the performing and visual arts, education, and other civic buildings from Vermont to Hawaii. Calling Aspen home for most of the last 14 years, Gilbert participates in the ongoing community debate about the built environment in Aspen and other Rocky Mountain resort towns. He has served as the Vice Chair of the Aspen Historic Preservation Commission, on the city's Design Review Appeals Committee, and other citizen groups including the current Historic Preservation Task Force. Gilbert recently contributed to long range planning as a consultant for the Town of Crested Butte's Recreational & Cultural Facilities Master Plan and for the City of Aspen's Civic Master Plan. His familiarity with the public process and his ability to build consensus among multiple user groups results in successful civic projects. Gilbert recently directed the Aspen School District Projects including a new LEED Gold certified 113,000 SF middle school. Current work includes new fire stations for the Aspen Fire Protection District and planning for a new Aspen Art Museum.
Gilbert holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin and is a Registered Architect in the State of Colorado.
